The Misinformation Club is a space for PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers to discuss their work, exchange ideas, and connect with peers and senior scholars in the field. Launched in early 2026 and organized by MiRA PhD candidates Ambika Ahuja, Ellen Linnert, Jil Laukamp, and Jolan Urkens, the Club brings together researchers with diverse perspectives on misinformation and related topics.
In the monthly sessions, participants have the opportunity to:
Present work-in-progress papers or early-stage research ideas
Receive structured feedback from one senior and one junior discussant
Discuss emerging trends and developments in the field
Build collaborations across program groups
We work with a broad understanding of misinformation and related phenomena to discuss various angles of this multifaceted issue. Previous sessions have focused on:
Effects of mis- and disinformation on organizational trust (presenter: Jolan Urkens)
Misinformation’s role in nutrition confusion among emerging adults (presenter: Jule Schmitz)
Using serious games to inoculate against propaganda in datafied warfare (presenter: Henrik Pröpper)
Understanding motivations facilitating citizen corrections (presenter: Ambika Ahuja)
Effectiveness of fact-checks and community notes for AI-generated visual propaganda (presenter: Nicolas Mattis)
The Club is open to all ASCoR PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers working on misinformation in the broadest sense, as well as visiting junior scholars working on related topics.
